Awo-Omamma

Some miles north of Ogoga in a very rural area, I became acquainted with a Mr. Ford, here, with his son in front of the home he built. He was a Baptist missionary who worked with the nomadic Fulani tribes of the Northern Region. He took me on a ten mile hike, part of which was over this vine bridge, to bring us to the nearest Fulani village.

With no written language the history, customs, and
so on are all passed from one generation to another
by story tellers. And the wealth of the village
is measured by the number of cattle they own
(invariably followed by a flock of "cattle egrets").

Here is the chief of the village with one of his three wives. Here, another wife with their child.

A boy plays the flute while watching over the herd and a woman sings while preparing food.
